For Elisibeth Venners, graduation from high school is right around the corner. Elisibeth is from Roosevelt High School and will graduate on May 21. Our soon to be alumnus will graduate with Accounting I, Introduction to Financial Services and Banking and Credit on her transcript. Her Academy of Finance (AOF) Teacher, Mrs. Brunken, is beaming with pride about Elisibeth’s accomplishments at the CTE Academy. Our Rough Rider and soon to be USD Coyote is going to major in Accounting and minor in Business next year. When Elisibeth was asked about her pursuit of excellence in the AOF Program, her immediate response was, “I love all the fieldtrips and personal interactions with the bankers and accountants.” Elisibeth, we know you are at a big intersection in life and you have more turns to take but we think you are traveling on a road of excellence in the financial industry! Congratulations on your “See the Vision” award!

“They go the extra mile!” We have two young men from Tri-Valley High School that bring a fun and infectious approach to their training in Welding at the CTE Academy. “Extra” is the word that was repeated frequently by their Welding Teacher, Mr. Benshoof. Brady Braaten and Weston VanDerVliet are both juniors and have taken Welding II and Advance Welding at the CTE Academy. The two Tri-Valley Mustangs have partnered to become a dynamic dual of getting it done. According to their teacher, our dynamic dual does extra work, extra projects, reload and fix machines and most importantly, they spend extra time and patience demonstrating their skills and knowledge to less experienced welders. Both students plan to use their welding skills in future employment. Weston and Brady, you have proven you go the extra mile! We think your compelling approach of getting it done will bring each of you miles of remarkable career success! Congratulations on being “See the Vision” winners!

We have become aware of a scam circulating that appears as if SFSD Child Nutrition Coordinator Gay Anderson is asking people to go out and purchase large dollar amounts of gift cards. Gay has NOT sent out a text or an email. Her communication devices appear to have been hacked. Please delete any communication and do not follow through with the request. We apologize for this inconvenience.

EMT students got to practice rapid extrication of patients from the AutoTech vehicles today! They did a great job! Knowing the feeling of being the patient pulled out of a vehicle is important for EMTs to experience! Trying to manipulate a real body in a small vehicle is quite a challenge as well! CTE=learn by doing. #siouxfalls #careerandtechnicaleducation #emt

Media Arts students took a field trip to USD. Students were able to tour the USD campus, the Media Department, as well as SDPB. What a great experience for our students!

Hunter Plueger enjoys welding. He took the class, Welding II and Advanced Welding at the CTE Academy, because he relishes the opportunity to work on the assignments......actually, building the assigned projects! Hunter Plueger is a junior from Tri-Valley High School and was nominated for his “See the Vision” award because of his enthusiasm for the occupation and the processes of welding. At a recent CTE open house, Hunter spent his evening giving tours and orientation to potential students and their parents. Needless to say, Hunter’s guidance and enthusiasm that evening was a hit. Our young man has knack for welding and knack for working with people. Hunter, we think a combination of those skills will make the sparks fly in your future! Congratulations!

The Home Builders Association of the Sioux Empire held “Frame the Future” which is a fun educational event for students to gain exposure to the building industry. Students from CTE Academy and Home Builders Academy at Harrisburg High School took part in five sessions including siding demonstration, framing challenge, carpentry knowledge test, speaker presentations, and a tour of Building Products Inc. As part of the event, students spent numerous hours constructing projects that were then judged at the event. CTE students received very high scores and had a great time showing the skills they've learned from Mr. Opdahl and Mr. Claasen.

“She adds flair and color to class.” What kind of better situation can one ask for in a Horticulture class? Plant arrangement, flowering bedding plants, and landscape design – all a part of our Horticulture class and Lincoln High School student, Alyssa Bade is adding her own flair to those colorful plants. Our junior LHS Patriot has a passion for plants and is planning to work in a greenhouse during the summer months. Her teacher, Mr. Jensen, says that Alyssa is the type of person that makes her peers feel welcome in class and she brings a fun and free spirit to the Agriculture classroom. Alyssa, we think your passion for plants and people added with a little flair and color makes for blooming success in the greenhouse! Congratulations! You are a “See the Vision” winner! #careerandtechnicaleducation #ageducation #siouxfalls

Culinary students partnered with The Spice and Tea Exchange (thanks Tami Brown) to make Earl Grey Shortbread Cookies served with iced Earl Grey tea for the Active Generations Gourmet Guys event. They placed 1st in the dessert category! Student Chef Kat and Chef Whempner were awarded a medal by Mayor TenHaken! What a great experience for our students!

EMT students were taught how to deliver babies in emergent situations this week! Our birthing simulation manikin put them to the test and they all passed! What a great opportunity for hands on learning!

The stats are troubling-47% of SFSD students qualify for free/reduced lunches. Their family's income is not enough to make ends meet. That makes it difficult to support school fundraisers. Operation Hope & Caring helps! Get your tickets to the SF STORM game to support schools!

Cody Koepke, a senior from Jefferson High School, is a student of the financial industry. Our next “See the Vision” winner has taken Accounting I, Accounting II, Economics, Introduction to Financial Services, Banking and Credit and did an internship at a local business. Cody has learned a lot in CTE’s Academy of Finance. He said, “I enjoyed the hands-on of the class and all the real-world guest speakers we learn from in class. I hope to start my own business from what I have learned.” With his sights set on owning his own business and participation in collegiate bowling, our talented student is headed to Hastings College in Hasting, Nebraska to major in Economics and Finance. His teacher, Mrs. Brunken quoted Peter Drucker to describe her student, “The best way to predict the future is to create it.” Cody, we think you are well on your way to creating your future! Congratulations on being a “See the Vision” winner.

We love ambition at the CTE Academy. We have a student that started his own “Traveling Car Detailer” business. Our student has turned his very evident passion for cars into an ambitious endeavor! Colton Lofflin is a junior from Jefferson High School and he is looking for work. Colton will clean the inside and outside of your car and make it look brand new again! Colton brings all of his work equipment in the back of his car to your car. Colton is a second year Auto Body student at the CTE Academy so he knows his automotive finishes. Our Traveling Car Detailer said it best, “With summer coming, I am looking for work!” A young man with ambition and passion – We love it!

Baking & Pastries had some guest chefs! Little chefs from Garfield Elementary's Leader In Me program got to attend the CTE Academy for the morning. Students were able to work with the big chefs to decorate cupcakes and make their own pizza! They then got to make their own commercial with the Broadcasting class at CTE (green screen and all)! Congrats to the Leaders In Me! #siouxfalls #sfcteacademy #careerandtechnicaleducation

When Brody Stenger was asked about his Ag Bio-Tech class at the CTE Academy, he replied with, “It fulfills my interest in agriculture.” Brody went on to explain he has grandparents that live on a farm. Our sophomore from Roosevelt High School is giving strong consideration to studying an agriculture-related field in college. His teacher, Mr. Jensen, says Brody is the type of student that asks questions that makes him (Mr. Jensen) think. Brody is a sponge that is always eager to learn. Mr. Jensen described his student by saying, “Brody is a student who does not settle for anything less than perfect and pushes himself to learn new things. He is a passionate student about agriculture and FFA.” Our “See the Vision” winner has the drive to push himself and a passion for agriculture. Congratulations, Brody Stenger! Keep the that willingness to learn and that drive – and you will go places in the fields of agriculture.
